WORCESTER – A former government economist outlined the complexities involved in analyzing and regulating U.S. financial markets at the Worcester Economic Club’s 557th meeting at the College of the Holy Cross Thursday night.

Dr. Jeffrey H. Harris is currently the Gary Cohn Goldman Sachs Endowed Chair in Finance at the Kogod School of Business at American University. He was chief economist at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission from 2007 to 2010, and also served from 1999 to 2000 at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Mr. Harris talked about being a proactive force for economic analysis; he said there are problems in government, but economic analysis is quite improved, with an increasingly heavy reliance on data.
