The 539th guest speaker event hosted by the Worcester Economic Club (WEC) will take place at the College of the Holy Cross tomorrow, Thursday, October 1, 2015. John Maguire, CEO of Friendly’s Ice Cream, LLC since 2012, will be the first of the recently announced 2015–2016 speakers. Mr. Maguire is a Massachusetts native from Weymouth with a bachelor’s degree in bakery science and management from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in advanced management from Harvard Business School.
The WEC hosts various guests each year to promote networking between local business leaders and professionals. WEC provides a forum for the discussion of economics, civic issues, education, sociological subjects, and more. A broad range of distinguished speakers are featured each year. The Worcester Economic Club is the premier networking forum in the greater Worcester area.
Friendly’s CEO John Maguire has decades of management experience. He began his career with Au Bon Pain, who handed him his “first chance to turn around an operation.” He helped streamline the provision of baked goods, salads, and juices to Au Bon Pain venues that could not support their own kitchen. He then moved on to work for Panera Bread for nineteen years, where he worked his way up to the positions of executive vice president and chief operating officer.
John Maguire will be joining the WEC members and guests at the College of the Holy Cross’ Hogan Center on October 1. There will be a reception at 5:30PM and dinner at 6:30PM. General seating for the dinner event is available at the door at standard guest prices.
