WEC 2025 Annual Meeting featuring Michael Minogue

The Worcester Economic Club is proud to welcome Michael Minogue, a decorated combat veteran, accomplished business leader, and passionate advocate for healthcare innovation and veterans’ causes. A West Point graduate and Bronze Star recipient for his service in Operation Desert Storm, Michael transitioned from military leadership to a groundbreaking career in the medical device industry. As Chairman, President, and CEO of Abiomed, Inc., he helped pioneer the field of heart recovery and led the company through historic growth, culminating in its $17 billion acquisition by Johnson & Johnson. Michael’s work has impacted hundreds of thousands of patients and helped shape national policy, all while supporting numerous philanthropic efforts through the Michael & Renee Minogue Foundation.

Stephen Wermiel

We’re excited to welcome Stephen Wermiel as our speaker for this upcoming meeting. A professor of practice at American University Washington College of Law, Stephen has spent 27 years teaching constitutional law, the First Amendment, and civil rights litigation. A former Supreme Court reporter for The Wall Street Journal, he is also the co-author of Justice Brennan: Liberal Champion, the definitive biography of Justice William J. Brennan Jr. His deep expertise and firsthand experience covering the Court make him an invaluable voice on the intricacies of our legal system.

Mark Melnik

We're excited to announce that Dr. Mark Melnik will be joining us as a featured speaker at our upcoming event. As Director of Economic & Public Policy Research at UMass, Dr. Melnik will share insights drawn from his extensive experience leading projects for organizations like the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, the Boston Foundation, and the City of Boston. With a Ph.D. in sociology and a deep understanding of labor market trends, Dr. Melnik will offer a compelling look at the forces shaping our economy and workforce.
